From new shops to established favorites! 4 must-visit sweets Shops in Nihonbashi

2026/11/06
  • Nihonbashi area boasts numerous specialty shops that are sure to attract the attention of sweets fans, especially those who love chocolate.

This time, we'll be highlighting four shops: "L'Isle L'Isle Chocolat" and "green bean to bar CHOCOLATE" from COREDO Muromachi Terrace, and "teal" and "BUNMEIDO CAFE" from Nihonbashi area.

  • "L'Isle Chocolat" is a select Shops that will impress even the most discerning chocolate lovers.

L'Isle L'Isle Chocolat, online shop that selects high-quality chocolates from Japan and abroad, is opening a pop-up store on the 1st floor of COREDO Muromachi Terrace this autumn! A limited-time pop-up store is currently being held until Sunday, May 30th, 2027.

This will be our third pop-up shop at COREDO Muromachi. Following the success of our previous pop-ups, this time we will be open for an extended period of more than six months.

The chocolates we carry include many brands that are hard to find in Japan, as well as chocolates from chocolatiers that haven't expanded into Tokyo, making for a lineup that will impress even connoisseurs. We always have 20 to 30 brands in stock from both Japan and abroad.

A specialty chocolate Shops is rare, and the opportunity to compare various brands of chocolate all in one place is a delightful feature for chocolate lovers. Furthermore, the products change frequently, so you're sure to discover something new each time you visit!

    fig

This time, we've picked out three brands recommended by the staff of "L'Isle Chocolat," who are experts in chocolate and say, "You absolutely must try them!"

First up is "MURATA" from Tagajo City, Miyagi Prefecture. It's the first bean-to-bar chocolate brand in the Tohoku region.

Originally a confectionery shop famous for its macarons, it has recently focused on chocolate. All of its chocolates are made with 70% cocoa, and each chocolate expresses its unique characteristics depending on the cocoa variety and origin.

The packaging is also cute, making it a great gift idea. It's rarely available in Tokyo, so it's incredibly popular, always drawing long lines when sold at events.

The second place I'd like to introduce is FILFIL, a chocolatier in Kanazawa. They offer a wide variety of products, primarily focusing on bean-to-bar chocolate.

One of the most distinctive features is the chocolate made with local ingredients from Ishikawa Prefecture. Unique ingredients such as Kaga bancha tea and Noto salt are used, and the packaging design is created in collaboration with local artists and traditional craftspeople.

With a presence that sets it apart from other brands, it's a brand that has been a long-selling item at "L'Isle Chocolat".

    fig

"FILFIL" Kaga Bocha 45% Milk Chocolate ~PROMENADE~ ¥2,070 (tax included) / Kaga Bocha 61% Dark Chocolate ~ZEN~ ¥2,185 (tax included) / Noto Salt Koji Dark Chocolate ~Fermented HAKKO~ ¥1,955 (tax included)

Finally, we have the Taiwanese chocolate brand "MASFINO." This brand is only available in Japan at "L'Isle Chocolat."

A distinctive feature is their bean-to-bar dark chocolate, made with carefully selected, top-quality ingredients. Even though it's 100% cocoa, its mild bitterness and smooth texture have made it very popular.

Furthermore, the flavors, which combine Taiwanese specialties such as tea and fruit, are also appealing. It's a delicious taste you won't easily find elsewhere!

    fig

MASFINO Dark Chocolate Osmanthus Oolong 70% ¥3,681 (tax included) / Dark Chocolate Passion Fruit 70% ¥3,303 (tax included) / Dark Chocolate Peppermint 70% ¥3,303 (tax included)

And there's another point you shouldn't miss when you pay! Next to the register, there's a "chocolate fortune-telling" machine. Insert a coin and turn the lever, and a capsule containing a fortune slip will come out.

It's only 500 yen (tax included) per try, and there are no losing tickets. If you get a "Great Fortune," you can win a 2,000 yen gift certificate. When you visit our store, be sure to try your luck!

    fig

One of the biggest attractions of "L'Isle Chocolat" is that you can sample almost all of the products, including the chocolates we introduced today. If there's anything that catches your eye, feel free to ask a staff member.

Compare and contrast our diverse range of chocolates and enjoy finding your favorite.

  • Enjoy the unique characteristics of cacao with "green bean to bar CHOCOLATE".

"green bean to bar CHOCOLATE" is a craft chocolate specialty shop located on the 1st floor COREDO Muromachi Terrace.

We make chocolate using the "bean-to-bar" style, handling every step from selecting and roasting the cocoa beans to blending and molding.

    fig

The shop's commitment lies in valuing not only the different flavors and aromas that vary depending on the origin of the cocoa beans, but also the stories behind each bean, including the growing environment.

The store always stocks 16 to 17 different types of chocolate made from cocoa beans from various regions.

    fig

My recommendation is dark chocolate in the 70% cocoa range, which allows you to enjoy the true flavor of the cocoa beans.

One that deserves special attention is "Camili," which won a gold medal at the world-renowned "The Chocolate Alliance Awards." It allows you to easily appreciate the unique characteristics of the beans, making it perfect for those trying bean-to-bar chocolate for the first time.

The cute paper packaging, inspired by the uniquely Japanese custom of wrapping gifts in wrapping paper, is another appealing feature. It's perfect as a treat for yourself or as a gift to bring to someone's home.

These chocolates are crafted with meticulous attention to both taste and appearance. Why not enjoy them slowly during your tea time at home or while you're out shopping?

  • "teal" is a place where you can enjoy chocolate and ice cream.

"teal," a chocolate and ice cream Shops that opened in Nihonbashi Kabutocho in 2021, is a collaboration between chocolatier Shohei Masago and pastry chef Keisuke Oyama of the patisserie "ease."

Nihonbashi Kabutocho, which flourished as a water transport center during the Edo period and is now known as a financial district, is home to our shop in a corner of the historic Nissho-kan building, located on a site associated with Eiichi Shibusawa.

While preserving the dignified atmosphere that evokes a sense of history, such as the large arched windows, we have focused on creating a comfortable space for modern Shops.

Furthermore, the brand's world view is unified not only in the store space but also in the packaging and graphics. The teal color, inspired by the store name "teal," and the duck motif are also elements that symbolize the brand.

    fig

At "teal," we offer sweets that highlight the appeal of the ingredients, centered around chocolate and ice cream. In addition to chocolate products such as chocolate bars and baked goods, we also offer products that allow you to enjoy seasonal flavors, such as gelato and cakes made with seasonal fruits.

Among the many products available, we recommend the chocolate bar and caramel bar for first-time customers.

The chocolate bar features a rum-soaked brownie topped with blackcurrant jam and a fruity ganache blended with Mayan red cacao and Amazonian cacao. The caramel bar consists of a crispy cookie base, a rich and creamy caramel sauce, crystallized nuts, and cranberries, all coated in chocolate.

Each ingredient harmonizes beautifully, with the aroma of cocoa, the bitterness of chocolate, the tartness of blackcurrant, and the savory flavor of brownie all blending together in your mouth, creating a taste you can enjoy without getting tired of it until the very last bite.

With its easy-to-carry packaging, it's perfect not only as an everyday snack but also as a souvenir or gift.

    fig

Set of 4 chocolate bars: ¥2,912 (tax included)

When it comes to "teal's" signature products, you can't miss their gelato made with Amazonian cacao. Takeout is available, so you can easily enjoy the vibrant aroma and fruity flavor unique to Amazonian cacao.

For dine-in customers, the "Chocolate Pudding with a Topping of Milk Ice Cream" remains an enduringly popular menu item. It's a rich and smooth chocolate pudding topped with a perfectly round scoop of ice cream.

"teal" is a place you can easily use in a variety of everyday situations, whether you're relaxing with ice cream inside the shop, stopping by during a work break, or buying chocolates and baked goods as souvenirs. When you visit the shop, we recommend enjoying a stroll through the Kabutocho area while savoring their exquisite sweets.

  • "BUNMEIDO CAFE" - where you can rediscover the charm of castella cake.

Finally, there's "BUNMEIDO CAFE," run by the long-established confectionery shop "Bunmeido Tokyo," located very close to COREDO Muromachi.

The history of Bunmeido Tokyo began in 1922 when Jinzaemon Miyazaki, the founder's younger brother, moved from Nagasaki to Tokyo. In 1924, they held Japan's first live demonstration and sale of castella cakes at a department store in Nihonbashi. Later, with the desire to "deliver sweets that connect people," they opened the Nihonbashi store in 1951.

At the time, each store was an independent company, but over time, in 2010, Bunmeido Shinjuku Store and Bunmeido Nihonbashi Store merged, starting anew as "Bunmeido Tokyo."

*Subsequently, in October 2026, Bunmeido Ginza store also merged with Bunmeido Tokyo.

In 2013, the Bunmeido Nihonbashi Main Store reopened after renovations. The retail area carries Bunmeido's FURLA, and in addition to regular products, it also sells limited-edition castella cakes made with eggs from Silkie chickens called "Kisho," as well as castella cakes and dorayaki with designs exclusive to the Nihonbashi Main Store.

The dining cafe "BUNMEIDO CAFE," attached to the store, is designed around the themes of "Japanese and Western," "present and past," and "connections between people." It boasts high ceilings and a spacious, open atmosphere.

On weekdays, it's frequently used by business people, who use it for business meetings and negotiations, or to enjoy lunch while purchasing gifts for clients. On weekends, however, it's a lively resting place for friends visiting Nihonbashi and tourists.

    fig

Among the extensive menu, our top recommendation is the "French Castella." The familiar castella takes on a completely different appearance through the baking process. It's a special item that only a castella shop can offer.

The castella cake used is "Special Selection Gosan Castella," which is characterized by its unparalleled richness and melt-in-your-mouth texture. By soaking it in egg mixture and baking it in the oven, the outside becomes crispy and the inside remains fluffy! The richness of the eggs is further enhanced, allowing you to enjoy an elegant sweetness and aroma.

Additional orders are accepted from just one piece. We also recommend enjoying it with the accompanying ice cream.

    fig

At "BUNMEIDO CAFE," in addition to sweets, the menu also includes a wide variety of meals. During lunchtime, we offer dishes such as Hayashi rice and curry rice, as well as fresh pasta.

"BUNMEIDO CAFE" is perfect for a wide range of occasions, from lunch to tea time and dinner. Why not drop by and experience the charm of the historic Bunmeido and its castella cake?
