The four-toed hedgehog, also known as the pygmy hedgehog, "pygmy" means "small" and "hedgehog" means "hedgehog"!

In the wild, they are widely distributed in Central Africa, including the African savannah, and are omnivorous, eating insects, mollusks such as slugs and snails, as well as plant leaves, seeds, and roots!

Although the name "four-toed shrike" has the word "mouse" in it, in fact... they are classified as a type of "mole" that belongs to the insectivorous order! If you look closely, you'll see that their faces also resemble moles...!

As the name "four-toed" hedgehogs suggests, they have the unique feature of having four toes on their hind feet.

And one of the most distinctive features of hedgehogs is their needles!
It is said that there are approximately 3,500 to 7,000 needles covering the entire structure!
These needles make up about 35% of our body weight, and are made of keratin, the same compound as hair and nails!

Our store also holds events where you can interact with hedgehogs and hold them in your hand, as shown in the photo!

Please try touching it and counting the number of needles and fingers up close!

All of our animal staff look forward to your visit!

*The event may be cancelled depending on the health of the animals.
