OKAYAMA Area Guide

The area around Kurashiki River in Kurashiki city, Okayama prefecture. It was brought under direct control of the shogunate in the Edo period, and the streetscape from that time remains to this day. Established in 1930, the Ohara Museum of Art was the first private art museum in Japan to focus on Western art. Guests have the opportunity to see pieces by famous artists, like Monet and Gauguin. In addition to the exhibits on display, the building itself is quite charming.
