Nihonbashi to Toyosu! Tried riding the fully electric passenger ship 'Nihonbashi e-LINER'

2026/08/14
  • From April 2026, the fully electric passenger ship "Nihonbashi e-LINER" began regular service between Nihonbashi and Toyosu. In COREDO Magazine, we will actually board this highly anticipated ship and report on the unique appeal and ways to enjoy "next-generation water mobility."

  • What is the fully electric passenger ship "Nihonbashi e-LINER"?

The Nihonbashi e-liner is a fully electric passenger ship on Japan's first civilian regular route, launched in April 2026. As part of Mitsui Fudosan's shipping project '&CRUISE,' it connects Nihonbashi Pier (Chuo Ward Disaster Prevention Pier) and Toyosu Pier (Mitsui Shopping Park Urban Dock LaLaport TOYOSU) in about 25 minutes one way.

Its greatest appeal lies in its overwhelming quietness and environmental performance, made possible by being fully electric with no engine or generator. With zero CO2 emissions during operation, and no vibration, fuel odor, or noise, you can enjoy an incredibly quiet and comfortable onboard experience.

The ship, with a capacity of 60 people, is equipped with free Wi-Fi, charging outlets, desks, and toilets, and can also accommodate bicycles. Furthermore, it is equipped with one of the largest batteries in Japan, so in times of emergency it can also supply reverse power and function as a "mobile power station."

  • Nihonbashi board the "Nihonbashi e-LINER"!

A certain day in July, clear skies. The weather is so pleasant that you sweat even when you sit still, but above the Nihonbashi, a pleasant breeze blows through.

The 'Nihonbashi Pier,' where Nihonbashi e-LINER arrives and departs, is located next to the 'Nihonbashi Police Box' next to the Nihonbashi, just down the stairs. There is also an elevator next to the stairs, so strollers and wheelchair users can feel at ease.

Boarding tickets can be reserved on this website. You can purchase them up to 10 minutes before departure.

Of course, reservations are available, but if seats are available on the day, you can also purchase them on board.

About 10 minutes before departure, the Nihonbashi e-liner arrives at the Nihonbashi pier!

    fig

Please gather at the dock at least 5 minutes before departure.

A crew member will handle the check-in process.

    Now, it's time to board!

Stepping inside the ship, you're immediately greeted by an open and spacious environment that completely overturns your preconceived notions of ship seating.

There is ample space, so boarding with strollers or wheelchairs is not a problem.

YELLO carpet and the organically arranged gray sofas create a relaxing design. All seating is open, allowing you to spend your time as you like.

    fig

Once you're seated, the ship will start moving shortly!

It starts off with a smooth, almost gliding motion across the water's surface, and is incredibly quiet. As it's a fully electric passenger ship, you don't feel any engine vibrations.

We travel southwest along Nihonbashi River, passing one unique bridge after another.

Nihonbashi, where the elevated bridge is scheduled to be removed and the sky opened up around 2040, is still undergoing construction, so this view can only be enjoyed now.

    fig

There are glass windows on the sides of the ceiling, allowing you to observe the underside of the bridge, which is normally inaccessible.

    fig

    The ship is well-equipped!

The restrooms are clean and barrier-free. A large full-length mirror is also provided.

    fig

There are also power outlets and workspaces in the corners of the ship.

Free Wi-Fi is available, so you can even check your emails while commuting!

    fig

There are four power outlets on board, so they're useful for charging your smartphone and other devices.

    fig

Once we leave Nihonbashi River and enter the Sumida River, the seats next to the cockpit also become available!

This is a prime seat where you can enjoy an immersive view, as if you were actually steering a ship.

    fig

Also, it's fantastic to go out onto the rear deck and enjoy the scenery while feeling the breeze!

Since it's a fully electric passenger ship, you don't have to worry about the smell of fuel.

    fig

There is space for up to two bicycles on the rear deck, so you can board with your bike and travel by bicycle after arrival.

The possibilities for travel are expanding more and more!

    fig

Just 25 minutes after boarding, we arrived at Toyosu Pier!

    fig

Located near Toyosu Station and adjacent to "Mitsui Shopping Park Urban Dock LaLaport TOYOSU" this property is perfect for a variety of occasions, including shopping and sightseeing!

Furthermore, "Mitsui Shopping Park Urban Dock LaLaport TOYOSU" is currently undergoing renovations and openings of new Shops in preparation for its 20th anniversary in October 2026!
