Founded in New York by Japanese select Shops Nepenthes, ENGINEERED GARMENTS is a brand created by designer Daiki Suzuki, who reinterprets classic American workwear and military items in a modern way, and as the brand name suggests, it is known for its skillfully designed items that are meticulously crafted down to the smallest detail. This collaboration was made possible by the shared passion for "manufacturing" between GU and ENGINEERED GARMENTS.

The inaugural collection, themed "Manhattanism," is inspired by the 1970s New York movement and features five styles that playfully reconstruct Americana pieces. Items reinterpret GU's classics, such as windproof shell parka outerwear with padding, adjustable cuffs, and hunting pockets on the back, and heavyweight sweatshirts crafted from heathered fabric for a vintage look, while colors like ENGINEERED GARMENTS' signature dark navy and meticulous detailing create a sophisticated impression. The lineup also features items with gimmicks, such as a knit cardigan featuring GU designs like a shawl collar and oversized cables, accented with elbow patch-like designs in the knit, and a fleece jacket that appears to be a pull-on but is actually an open-front wrap.
