2025/07/22
  • Want to find a midyear gift that captures the traditions of Nihonbashi? Want to choose a slightly unusual souvenir to take home when you go home? We've picked out "summer gifts" that will satisfy your needs from popular stores in COREDO Muromachi!

We will introduce the recommended delicacies from each of the five stores: "Ninben Nihonbashi Main Store," "Nihonbashi Imoya Kinjiro," "Hakkaisan Sennen Kojiya," "TSURUYA YOSHINOBU," and "ISHIYA NIHONBASHI."

  • "Somen Set" with a focus on the deliciousness of the "dashi"

    fig

Founded in the Edo period, Ninben currently has its main store in Nihonbashi on the first floor of COREDO Muromachi 1. For 300 years, the store has been selling mainly dried bonito flakes, and is particularly known for its honkared bonito flakes, which are said to have been established between the late Edo period and the early Meiji period.

When you open the wrapping paper featuring the "Ninben" logo that exudes such tradition and prestige...

    fig

Somen set (hand-pulled somen noodles 225g x 2 bags, somen soup special 200ml x 1 bottle) 1,512 yen (tax included)

What emerged from inside was the classic summer delicacy, "hand-pulled somen noodles" and "special somen soup"!

Both are only available during the summer and are popular items that many people look forward to every year.

    fig

Hand-pulled somen noodles, made by noodle makers in Okayama, are made by carefully kneading wheat flour and salt water, and then stretching and ripening the dough to create chewy noodles that are easy to swallow.

The straight-type "Special Somen Soup Soup" uses Ninben's carefully selected dried bonito flakes. It is made with Shimousa soy sauce, kelp from Hokkaido, raw sugar from sugarcane from Tanegashima, and sea salt from Okinawa, and is combined with a strong dashi stock to create a flavor that is full of umami. It has a lighter taste than soba soup, and brings out the delicate flavor of somen noodles.

The reasonable price and distinctive Nihonbashi flavor make it the perfect souvenir to take home or as a casual gift.

  • "Imokenpi" is perfect for gatherings

    fig

The recommended summer gift from Nihonbashi Imoya Kinjiro, a sweet potato confectionery specialty store on the first floor of COREDO Muromachi 2, is their signature product, Special Selection Imo Kenpi.

But what's surprising is its size. The moment you receive it, you can feel its weight, which is hard to believe for sweet potato chips.

    fig

Canned special potato chips (750g) 3,500 yen (tax included)

When you open the wrapper, you'll see a can full of sweet potato chips!

We are particular about everything from the ingredients to the manufacturing process, and our "Specially Selected Imo Kenpi" is made by deep-frying Koganesengan sweet potatoes from domestic contracted farmers in our original oil made from the highest quality rice oil and rapeseed oil. You can enjoy the original deliciousness of the potato.

    fig

A regular bite-sized serving of imokenpi is 100g, so the large 750g serving is perfect for gathering together. Everyone can enjoy a bite and it's sure to spark lively conversation!

It is only sold at the directly managed stores and online, so it is a rare item. It is also recommended as a midyear gift.

    fig

The expiration date for unopened products is a long 60 days from the date of manufacture. Fried snacks like Imokenpi are best stored in light-proof cans, allowing you to enjoy them to the last bite.

If you're looking for a souvenir from the area, we also recommend the "Freshly Fried Imokenpi," which is only available in Nihonbashi. The Imokenpi, which is fried in olive oil and sold in a demonstration workshop inside the store, doesn't keep well, but it's worth a try!

  • Sparkling sake for special moments

    fig

If you are looking for a premium gift for someone special, how about "Bottled Fermented Sake, White Koji Awa, Hakkaisan, Aged for Three Years" from "Hakkaisan Sennen Kojiya" on the 1st floor of COREDO Muromachi 2?

The special presentation box, with its black box and silver foil stamping, exudes a sense of luxury that will lift your spirits even before you open it.

    fig

Bottled secondary fermentation sake, white koji awa, Hakkaisan, aged for three years (720ml) 13,200 yen (tax included)

"Bottle-fermented sake, white koji awa, Hakkaisan, aged for three years" is a sparkling sake "Bottle-fermented sake, white koji awa, Hakkaisan," which is carefully aged for three years in a dedicated storage facility in Minamiuonuma.

The fact that the flavor improves as it withstands three years of aging is proof of high quality sake.

    fig

When poured into a glass, it takes on a beautiful color like aged champagne. The delicate bubbles that rise up, a feature of the secondary fermentation in the bottle, are a feast for the eyes.

When you take a sip, you will be surprised by the aroma and flavor that overturns your preconceived ideas about sake. The acidity created by the white koji and yeast and the umami of the rice are in harmony, and you can enjoy the long-lasting aftertaste created by the richness, mellowness, and full-bodied flavor that comes from aging.

It has a firm structure, so it seems to go well with strong-flavored cheeses.

    fig

Bottled secondary fermentation sake, white koji awa, Hakkaisan, aged for three years (360ml) 6,930 yen (tax included)

"Shirokoji Awa Hakkaisan Three Years Aged" comes in a 720ml size with a special presentation box, and is also available in a half-size 360ml size. It would be nice to give it as a set with the regular "Shirokoji Awa Hakkaisan" that has not been aged, and enjoy comparing the two with your loved ones.

  • Honwarabi: A Kyoto-style refreshing sweet only available in summer

    fig

TSURUYA YOSHINOBU, located on the first floor of COREDO Muromachi 3, is a shop where you can enjoy Shops and a relaxing Japanese Café. This long-established Japanese confectionery store is always bustling, and their recommended gift for the summer is Honwarabi.

Upon opening the elegant wrapping paper depicting two red-crowned cranes on a pure white background...

    fig

6 pieces of genuine bracken: 2,052 yen (tax included)

The box contains three different flavors: "Koshian" with a smooth texture and gentle sweetness, "Matcha" with the rich aroma of Uji matcha from Kyoto Prefecture, and "Ogura" with the granular texture and simple flavor of red beans.

    fig

When you take it out of the container, it looks like mizu yokan, but when you put a spoon into it, you can feel a completely different chewy resistance.

"Honwarabi" uses the very precious "honwarabi powder" that can only be obtained in small quantities from the roots of the bracken to create a chewy and soft texture that is somewhere between warabi mochi and mizu yokan. The unique texture and smooth taste are addictive, and many fans look forward to it every year!

    fig

It's delicious when chilled, of course, but it's also delicious at room temperature, where you can experience the flavors of the ingredients more directly.

It has a long shelf life of 80 days, making it perfect as a gift.
