-
You can enjoy French impressionist works, mainly by Claude Monet, as if you were immersed in them! The immersive exhibition "Monet & Friends Alive," which has captivated the world, is being held at Nihonbashi Mitsui Hall until Sunday, September 29, 2024.
COREDO Magazine will report on eight points to help you fully enjoy this much talked about, innovative art exhibition! -
POINT 1: You will be greeted by art inspired by water lilies!
As you enter the Nihonbashi Mitsui Hall on the 5th floor of COREDO Muromachi 1, the venue for "Monet & Friends Alive," the first thing you'll see at the entrance is a light installation inspired by Monet's masterpiece, "Water Lilies."
This work, "Water Lilies - Changing Light," was created by You Ru Maru, an art collective consisting of Funaki Suguru and Kado Rie. It expresses the worldview and brushstrokes of Monet, who was known as the painter of light, through lighting using special sheets. It pays homage to Monet's characteristic series of paintings, and if you look at it for a while, the light will beautifully change from morning, noon, evening, and night. It will surely heighten your excitement about the world of impressionism that you are about to enter.
-
POINT 2: Review the history of Monet & Friends!
As you pass through the entrance and walk down the corridor, you will come across a row of panels explaining the careers and works of Impressionist painters, including Claude Monet, ar* Manet, Camille Pissarro, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Edgar Degas, and Paul Cézanne, with a focus on Monet.
There is also a timeline of the Impressionists, who lived through socially and politically turbulent times! From Neoclassicism to Romanticism, through the Realism of the 1860s, the Impressionists emerged, who pursued the expression of light using paint. Why not get a sense of the aspirations of the Impressionist painters, which have been passed down to later ar* Nouveau, Fauvism, Expressionism, and even to the present day?
-
POINT 3: Enjoy AR in Monet's garden!
As you walk along looking at the panels, you will come across a beautiful space filled with flowers! This is the WILDFLOWER ROOM, a photo location inspired by Monet's garden in Giverny, France. Surrounded by mirrors, it is a photogenic space that feels even more spacious. Taking photos here is a must!!
And when you're taking photos, be sure to try out "Monet AR." If you scan the QR code on the panel installed in the passageway with your smartphone, Monet dancing on the water lilies will appear on your smartphone screen. You can save the adorable image of Monet not only in photos but also in videos.
-
POINT 4: Abe Ryohei (Snow Man)'s message is a must-listen!
Snow Man member Ryohei Abe has been appointed as the official ambassador for Monet & Friends Alive! Don't miss the panels set up in the hallway and read the QR code with your smartphone to hear a special message from Abe to the visitors.

-
POINT 5: Immerse yourself in the light and sound!
As soon as you step through the black curtains at the back of the venue, you're enveloped in dazzling light, color, sound, and scent. It's exactly like the world depicted by an impressionist artist.
Works by Monet and other impressionist artists are projected one after another onto several dynamically arranged giant screens and the vast floor. You can experience the bold brushstrokes unique to impressionism in overwhelming size, and by combining powerful classical music with the latest immersive technology, we have created an immersive experience that combines artistry and entertainment. Relax and surrender yourself to the environment, and you will surely be captivated by the charm of impressionism all over again!
You are free to take photos, videos, and even post them on social media in the venue! Entry and exit are also free, so please enjoy this extraordinary world where you can feel the art with your whole body to your heart's content.
*Photography using tripods, selfie sticks, or flash is not permitted. -
POINT 6: Step into Monet's painting and take a commemorative photo!
At the back of the large space, surrounded by light and sound, is the "BRIDGE GARDEN ROOM," a photo spot inspired by Monet's masterpiece "Water Lily Pond and Japanese Bridge." It's in a slightly hard-to-find location, so be careful not to miss it.
When you step into the room, a water lily pond is projected onto the room, and the water surface shimmers beautifully. If you cross the bridge and enter the giant picture frame, you will feel as if you have entered a Monet painting! The photo you can take here will surely become a special memory.
