I want to try all the fries at COREDO Muromachi! [COREDO FRIEND EATING SQUAD]

2023/11/10
  • "There are a lot of potato dishes at COREDO Muromachi."

"That's right. It's not COREDO, it's Potato Muromachi."

"How about the three of us eat all COREDO fries?"

Three potato-lovers who work at COREDO Muromachi get excited talking about potatoes and decide to form the "COREDO Potato Eating Squad"... Their mission is to eat all the potatoes at COREDO Muromachi!

This time we will focus on six restaurants and taste and report on a variety of potato dishes, with a focus on French fries.

  • COREDO Muromachi 2 2F "Beer Cafe Bruges Zot" Belgian potato fries

    info

    Belgian Potato Frites S: 980 yen (1 sauce type) M: 1,200 yen (2 sauce types) L: 1,400 yen (4 sauce types/photo shows L size)

The first place the three members of the "COREDO Potato Eaters" visited was Beer Cafe Brugge Zot, an official restaurant of a brewery with over 450 years of history in the ancient Belgian city of Bruges. They decided to start off with something classic, so they went for the Belgian specialty "Belgian Potato Fries."

Belgium is the country where French fries, or fries, originated. For Belgians, fries are a national dish, and there are fries specialty shops all over the city. And even though Belgium has a land area only one-third the size of Hokkaido, it is the world's largest exporter of fries. This shows the pride and love that the Belgians have for fries.

    info

Beer Cafe Brugge Zot's potato fries are a faithful reproduction of the authentic taste. Belgian potatoes are cut into thick strips, 9mm wide, and fried slowly to make them crispy on the outside and fluffy and moist on the inside. You can choose from three sizes, from S to L.

In Belgium, it is common to dip your burgers in sauce before eating. Beer Cafe Brugge Zot offers five different sauces to choose from. All sauces except for the standard "tomato ketchup" are homemade in the store. The garlic mayonnaise "aioli sauce" and the rich "oyster mayonnaise" with oyster extract are particularly popular and addictive.

A classic deliciousness that can be recommended to anyone, regardless of age or gender. When you visit Beer Cafe Bruggs Zot, you can't go wrong with the potato fries!

"This is the origin of French fries. I want all potato lovers to try it!

    info

Of course, it goes well with a Belgian beer. I recommend the refreshing "Bruggs Zot Blonde."

The striking visual, with potatoes overflowing, is perfect!

  • COREDO Muromachi 1 2F "Nihonbashi Suminoei" Aosa potato fries

    info

    Aosa fries 580 yen

The second restaurant chosen by the three members of the COREDO Potato Tabetai was Nihonbashi Suminoe, a Japanese izakaya where you can enjoy sashimi and grilled fish made with fresh, seasonal fish delivered from the restaurant's own fishing boats and fishermen all over the country. While most of the menu items use fish, a popular staple that has been available since the restaurant first opened is the Aosa Potato Fries.

However, it is a bit unusual to have "Aosa Potato Fries" instead of Aonori. Generally, Aonori is powdered, while Aosa is flaked, which is said to bring out the flavor of the seaweed more strongly.

The potatoes are deep-fried in wedges until crispy, with a fluffy texture on the inside. The seasoning is made with domestically produced green laver, as well as bonito flakes from Makurazaki and salt. The deep umami flavor, reminiscent of dashi stock, makes these fries unique to a fishmonger.

This is a dish that shows the fishmonger's attention to detail.

    info

The flavor of bonito is addictive. It goes well with white rice!

    info

That's true, but I do miss beer.

  • COREDO Muromachi Terrace 1F "CRAFTROCK BREWPUB & LIVE" Loaded Fly

    info

Loaded Fries PUNK ROCK Half: 880 yen Full: 1,480 yen Mega: 3,880 yen (pictured is full)

The third store is "CRAFTROCK BREWPUB & LIVE," which has a craft beer brewery attached and offers freshly brewed homemade beer that can only be drunk here, as well as about 15 types of carefully selected craft beer from around the world. It is a popular store that also has live music performances that are held irregularly in the store.

One of the signature dishes at Craft Rock is the American dish "Loaded Fries," which is fries topped with cheese, various ingredients, and plenty of sauce. This time, we chose the most popular "PUNK ROCK" from the four types in the lineup. As Craft Rock's theme is to connect the cultures of music and craft beer, all of the menu items have music-related names.

    info

The full size I ordered this time was so full of fries that it could be shared by 4 to 6 people. The toppings were a combination of pulled pork, Monterey Jack cheese, jalapeno, On, mustard, and BBQ sauce. The soft, homemade pulled pork went well with the fries, and the sweet, salty, and spicy flavors of each topping blended together and spread throughout my mouth. Once I had the beer down, I wanted to take another bite...I couldn't stop the loop.

You can also add extra cheese with the melted cheese sauce (single: 200 yen, double: 400 yen, extreme: 1,200 yen). Cheese lovers will love it, as you can enjoy a richer, fuller taste. The performance of pouring a huge amount of hot cheese right in front of you is sure to be a hit. Don't forget to take a video!

  • info

It has a strong punch to it, which is great. It pairs perfectly with the bitter beer style IPA (India Pale Ale)!!!

    info

Be careful not to drink too much (laughs). The taste changes depending on where you eat, so you won't get bored.

    info

I immediately uploaded the Melt Cheese to social media! Like!

  • COREDO Muromachi Terrace 1F "Wagyu Burger" Potatoes and On Rings

    info

Potatoes and On rings 780 yen

When you think of french fries, many people probably think of a hamburger Shops. The three members of the "COREDO Potato Eaters" set their sights on "Wagyu Burger," which offers a premium Wagyu beef burger that packs in the delicious flavor of 100% A5 Wagyu beef. Of course, fries are a popular side dish.

These are "Potato & On Rings" that you can enjoy either in the restaurant or take out. The potatoes are straight and thick, making them satisfying to eat and stand up to the strong flavor of the Wagyu beef burger. They are simply seasoned with just salt. They are fried to a perfect crisp!

    info

The sweetness of the crunchy On rings goes well with the saltiness of the fries. Apparently, On rings disappeared once due to a menu revision, but they were brought back after receiving many requests from customers. They are not offered as a single item, but can only be enjoyed as a set with fries, making them a somewhat rare menu item.

The potato and On rings go perfectly with the hamburger, but they are also perfect as a snack for a quick drink after work. The in-store only alcohol set (1,280 yen) allows you to choose from five types of alcohol, including beer and lemon sour, which is a nice touch.

  • info

Even hamburger Shops often don't stock On rings, so this is a rare find!

    info

Like hamburgers, fries and On rings, the three of us get along well.

    info

They even have an alcohol set, which hits the spot for me.

  • COREDO Muromachi Terrace B1 "Uomori" Bonito Flake Potato Salad

    info

Potato salad with dried bonito flakes 440 yen

Now, as a special edition, we will be trying potato dishes other than French fries. The three members of "COREDO Potato Eaters" visited "Uomori," a fish bar that boasts fresh fish delivered directly from the farms of Japan. We came here after hearing rumors that their potato salad was going to be revamped.

The new menu item is "Katsuobushi Potato Salad." It is a simple dish that only contains katsuobushi, but when you try it, you will be surprised by its deep flavor. The secret is in the way different types of katsuobushi are used. Two types of katsuobushi, raw and rough, are added to shredded potatoes and mixed with Japanese-style broth. To finish, fresh bonito flakes are sprinkled on top to complete the dish. The moist bonito flakes blend well with the moist potato salad, and the more you chew, the more you can enjoy the umami of the bonito.

The fish flavor is at the forefront, and the rich taste makes it an excellent snack to go with alcohol. It's also great to enjoy it sip by sip with some sake.

    info

  • info

This goes really well with alcohol. I think it'll be my go-to drink from now on!

    info

You can enjoy it bit by bit, so it's good value for money!

    info

Another key point is the moderate crunchy texture of the potatoes, which stands up to the strong flavor of the bonito flakes.

  • Freshly baked sweet potatoes from "Nihonbashi Imoya Kinjiro" on the 1st floor of COREDO Muromachi 2

    info

Freshly baked sweet potato 350 yen (1 piece)

"I want to finish off with something sweet!" So I went to Nihonbashi Imoya Kinjiro, a shop that specializes in sweet potato sweets. It's a popular shop that has lines of people waiting almost every day, but did you know that they also have a new product that debuted this spring and has quickly become as popular as their signature product, "Freshly Fried Imo Kenpi"?

This is "Freshly Baked Sweet Potatoes", baked in the in-store oven and served slightly warm. All they use are sweet potatoes, sugar, fresh cream, butter, eggs, and liquor. Because it's so simple, they're particular about the ingredients and the manufacturing process. They use a blend of two types of sweet potato paste to bring out the natural sweetness and aroma of the sweet potatoes. The addition of Calpis butter and a small amount of liquor gives it a moist, soft, fragrant, and rich taste. It's the ultimate sweet potato treat.

    info

You can take them home in a box, but many people just eat one or two as is, in a nearby park, etc. If you eat them while they're warm, you can enjoy the amazing fluffy texture, but if you chill them in the refrigerator, a different kind of charm will be brought out. The expiration date is two days.

We also have a lineup of sweet potato treats that last longer. We don't add any fresh cream or butter, and instead use 40% white chocolate, which allows them to be stored at room temperature. Although the texture and flavor are different from our freshly baked sweet potato treats, this is also a product that Imoya Kinjiro is proud of.

  • info

It melts in your mouth. It's softer than you'd imagine!

    info

It really doesn't feel like it's getting stuck in your throat at all. I'm sure everyone will like the flavor, so it would make a good souvenir.

    info

I'd love to relax in the evening and enjoy some whiskey or brandy.
