Brand Concept | Nagoya in the early 1940s. It was a time just after the war when there was little to eat. A customer drinking at a food stall in the middle of a crowd happened to casually dip a piece of kushikatsu he was eating as a snack into the sauce for "dote nabe" (a hotpot made with pork cutlets). He then exclaimed, "Wow, this is delicious!" At the time, the way of eating kushikatsu was gradually becoming popular in the downtown area. Suzuki Yoshio, the first owner of "Yabaton", tried to make it into a product, and after much trial and error, he finally perfected his secret recipe for "miso sauce". In 1947, "Yaba no Tonkatsu" was opened in front of the Minami Otsu-dori 4-chome tram stop. Soon "Yaba no Tonkatsu" became a popular local restaurant, and "miso katsu" also became popular. However, back then, "miso katsu" was not a popular dish like it is today, but a very expensive food that ordinary people could not afford, and even now, older people who come to the restaurant talk nostalgically about those days. "During the post-war reconstruction period, misokatsu was a real luxury. After working hard, eating misokatsu once every few months was my only joy." |
