During this time of year, when schools and kindergartens have swimming lessons, the number of cases of conjunctivitis (adenovirus infection) tends to increase.
The main symptoms of conjunctivitis include redness of the eyes, discharge, increased tearing, and sensitivity to light. It may also be accompanied by cold-like symptoms and fever.
Of particular concern is infection within the family. Epidemics are highly contagious, and it's not uncommon for them to spread from children to siblings and then to parents.
If you notice symptoms such as "redness in only one eye" or "more eye discharge than usual," we recommend seeing a doctor as soon as possible rather than self-diagnosing. To ensure everyone in the family can enjoy fun summer events with peace of mind, let's all take care of our eye health.
