LACOSTE was founded in 1933 by French tennis player René LACOSTE.
In 1927, René LACOSTE had a polo shirt made for himself, made of cotton with a comfortable, breathable and moisture-wicking texture to withstand the heat on American tennis courts. The polo shirt caused an instant sensation among tennis players at the time, who wore long-sleeved town shirts, and revolutionized Men's sportswear.
Taking this opportunity, René LACOSTE started producing polo shirts with a crocodile logo together with André Gillier, the owner of France's largest knitwear manufacturing company, in 1933. This was the birth of the polo shirt, which is the brand icon of LACOSTE, and the beginning of the brand's history. This was the first time that the brand mark was placed on a part of tennis wear that was visible from the outside.
Although its origins lie in the polo shirt as tennis wear, LACOSTE is now a "LIFE" brand of elegance and relaxation, with a wide range of collections including Men's and women's fashion, children's clothing, shoes, perfume, leather goods, eyewear, belts, watches, and home textiles. LACOSTE 's success is built on core values such as a commitment to authenticity, performance, and elegance. Since 2003, it has also participated in the New York Collection. As a fashion brand, it is highly regarded around the world.
