Hello. Our clinic provides general ophthalmology services and contact lens prescriptions.
As swimming lessons begin at school around this time of year, we see an increase in consultations regarding "pink eye" (a common illness affecting children).
Epidemic eye is an infection caused by adenovirus, and is characterized by its high infectivity.
The main symptoms include redness of the eyes, discharge, increased tearing, and swollen eyelids. Initially, it may only affect one eye, but it can spread to the other eye a few days later.
Furthermore, it's important to note that the flu can spread not only in swimming pools but also easily within the home through towels and hands. If any family members show similar symptoms, avoid sharing towels and wash your hands thoroughly.
Please do not self-diagnose by thinking, "It's just a little red, so it's fine." If you have any concerning symptoms, we recommend seeing a doctor as soon as possible.
