How an outdoor brand relates to the earth and nature
In this article, we will introduce the SDGs Action of THE NORTH FACE THE NORTH FACE HELLY HANSEN HELLY HANSEN SAPPORO KITAHIROSHIMA store, a tenant of MITSUI OUTLET PARK SAPPORO KITAHIROSHIMA. We asked the store manager, Mr. Watanabe, "What is our relationship with the earth and nature as an outdoor brand?"
SDGs from the outdoors
It is said that there is a close connection between the outdoors and the SDGs. All people, from children to adults, can learn about and work on the SDGs naturally through living with the outdoors, experiencing nature and the inconveniences that are not part of everyday life. Ltd. Goldwin, which has 20 brands (as of 2021/11) of items for a wide range of outdoor scenes, is constantly seeking ways to relate to nature as an outdoor brand and implementing various practices to pass on a rich environment to the future.
What is GREEN IS GOOD?
GREEN IS GOOD is a program promoted by Goldwin to protect the green earth while having fun. As a manufacturer of sporting goods, we are doing what we can for the environment, such as developing eco-friendly products and coming up with ideas for reducing the burden on the environment while having fun.
In the store, they were running an activity called "GREENCYCLE" where they collected clothes from manufacturers and brands other than their own, regardless of their quality or condition. Polyester and nylon clothes are chemically recycled to return them to high-purity raw materials, and downwear is collected for a recycling project to be used as raw materials for new down products. Clothes that are still wearable are donated or reused.
Community contribution activities
On the 22nd of each month, staff members divide up and participate in cleaning activities in the Kitahiroshima area to create a clean and comfortable environment.
All of the store staff are outdoor enthusiasts, but since starting this activity and seeing the huge amounts of garbage being dumped every month, there has been a major change in the staff's thinking and behavior towards the natural environment.
Through the "GREENCYCLE" initiative, THE NORTH FACE / HELLY HANSEN SAPPORO KITAHIROSHIMA store is distributing 500 yen discount coupons that can be used in-store to customers who bring in clothes from manufacturers or brands other than its own products. Why not take this opportunity to take action together to realize a sustainable society?
Thank you, Watanabe-san, for your valuable story!
