A camping event was held for four days from July 22nd to 25th at the outdoor special venue at the north entrance of Clover Mall 1F. In order to give more people the opportunity to deepen their awareness and knowledge of environmental issues through nature such as camping and outdoor activities, various SDGs content was implemented. This event, held as the 12th installment of the Hokkaido Bond Project, provided a place for interaction as a support project for producers and businesses throughout Hokkaido who have been experiencing sluggish sales due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was an event where many customers, from adults to children, were able to learn through nature in a fun way.
At the event, we had guest, a professional camper, Mr. Hoshi, and we held a number of experience and food education Shops, such as demonstrations of chopping firewood and camp meals. In these days when it is difficult to go out, children who have less contact with nature get excited just by looking at firewood. Many people, from children to adults, participated, conveying the importance of nature and learning about forest resources. By actually experiencing it, it was an event that made people realize that "I can work on the SDGs myself" and "This kind of activity will achieve the SDGs goals". In the cooking demonstration, we conveyed the importance of food and the importance of mental and physical health, and held a food education event where people could taste the actual menu that was made. The curry made with summer vegetables from Hokkaido Loco Farm Village and the Baumkuchen supervised by a specialty store were excellent.
Other activities included a tour of a camper van and an experiential Shops where participants could make insect repellent candles. The eco-candles, made from natural materials, taught participants about waste materials and how they can be reused as part of the activities for "responsible consumption and production," one of the SDGs goals. By making candles freely, the children were able to simultaneously develop their imagination and self-esteem, and after having fun learning, the children were filled with a sense of accomplishment and smiles when they saw the finished candles.
To attract more visitors, we also had a raffle where you could win mont-bell camping goods depending on how much you spent in the building, and we had a food and drink venue with delicious gourmet food. It was a lively event that lasted all day.
At MITSUI OUTLET PARK SAPPORO KITAHIROSHIMA, we will continue to take on the challenge of achieving the SDGs as a company and will continue to provide opportunities for learning for many people through events.
