In 1977, at the age of 23, founder Rob Burns opened his dream Shops in Kailua, Oahu, Hawaii.
The "LOCAL MOTION" brand was pioneered when Rob began selling surfboards that he shaped himself, using a coconut palm tree as his trademark. It achieved success on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, and in 1981 opened a store in Honolulu selling surfboards and apparel, and has since grown into Hawaii's leading surf brand.
