Introduction
Jackets and shirts are staples in any closet. How can you update your style? "When I say update, I don't mean you have to match them with unusual clothes. Try combining basic styles with unexpected tastes and textures," says Kanako Sato, a self-proclaimed basic stylist. She taught me the latest styling that is "ordinary yet new."

Because of the security of a jacket
Playful pants for a mature look

Tailored jackets are no longer just for work days, but are an essential item for everyday fashion. This well-cut navy tailored jacket with gold buttons gives off a classic, traditional impression. "The jacket's neatness makes it look mature even when paired with trendy items. Pair it with a cropped T-shirt and loose parachute pants for a fresh look."

I don't wear crisp blouses
Layer with a short knit

White blouses are also a classic among classics. "This blouse with accordion pleats at the hem is simple yet stylish. I took advantage of the peplum design and layered a short cardigan over it." It has the clean look that only a blouse can have, but the band collar keeps it from being too strong, so it should be easy to wear even for those who don't like collars. Slim-fitting bottoms are a great match.

Cardigan 6,600 yen (tax included), blouse 7,700 yen (tax included) Both at STYLEMIXER [South Building 1F] &mall

Subverting the elegant character of tweed
Boyish shorts combination

A tweed jacket is easy to wear like a cardigan, and can add a lot of character to any outfit. "Tweed is a new staple item, but if you take one wrong step it can come off as too elegant, so you need to be careful not to look like a madam. By combining a sweat-like Top's underneath and shorts as the bottoms, which are a bit mischievous in contrast to the tweed, you can create a fresh image."

Jacket: 33,000 yen (tax included), cut and sewn: 8,990 yen (tax included) both at PLST [South Building 1F]

Shorts: 13,970 yen (tax included) *Expected to arrive in mid-March, Shoes: 18,700 yen (tax included) Both available at BEAUTY&YOUTH UNITED ARROWS [South Building 2F] &mall
