This is a species of #long-eared owl and its name is Terry!
The long-eared owl is an owl that is said to be distributed throughout Japan, breeding in northern Honshu and Hokkaido, and migrating to central and southern Honshu to spend the winter there!
It is also said to live in Eurasia and North America.

By the way, everyone! Do you know the difference between an owl and a barn owl?
Actually, the difference is whether or not they have "wing antlers."
The tufts are the decorative feathers on the head that look like ears.
And, the one with these tufts is an "owl" and the one without them is an "owl"!
So Terry the Long-eared Owl is actually a Horned Owl!

Generally speaking, individuals with antlers are called "XX owls" and those without are called "XX owls". However, since both barn owls and owls belong to the Strigidae family, they are basically all called "owls". In English, there is no distinction between owls and barn owls, and they are both written as "owls"!

At our store, you can interact with both owls and barn owls!
Please try to guess whether it is an owl or a barn owl!

If you find it difficult, you can ask the staff for a hint!

We also offer an event where you can "hold an owl on your hand" as shown in the photo, where you can hold an owl on your hand and take photos together!
Please try riding on the owl and experience its weight and feathers up close!

All of our animal staff look forward to your visit!

*The event may be cancelled depending on the health of the animals.
